Woody Aplanalp is the frontman of his original songwriting and experimental music project called Bonsai Universe. The debut album, Moonstream, was released Feb 5, 2018. Music critic Steve Hochman (NPR) described it as having a “Blissful charm and a cosmic gaze.”

He has been known as a guitarist and collaborator for a diverse array of artists such as Bobby Womack, Lauryn Hill, Trilok Guru, Nels Cline, Stephen Perkins, Old Californio, Aloe Blacc, Thomas Mapfumo, Wadada Leo Smith, Miles Mosley, Lili Haydn, Oingo Boingo Dance Party, Quetzal, and others.

With this project, each song could be its own little universe, or you could say, a Bonsai Universe.
